The Machinery

Started in 2017, CNC Conversion focused on building conversion kits for benchtop mills and lathes. With multiple requests from patrons to provide control packages of these machines, CNC shifted gears to develop proprietary designs for manufacturing and selling control packages.

In 2018, CNC Conversions came across small machine shops that were in need of faster production. To help these shops make production faster cost-effective, we automated Bridgeport Knee mill and small engine lathe to CNC.

Soon, CNC Conversions recognized the need for turn-key CNC mills and lathes in the industry and decided to provide affordable and innovative CNC machines as an alternative to the $20k-$30k options available in the market.

CNC Conversions has evolved over the years to offer not only conversion kits but also turn-key machines that can automate tasks and make production more efficient.

CNC Conversions also buys machines that customers want to automate. We convert these machines, modify it as per the requirements, and have them delivered to the customers.

The Mind Behind the Machinery

Michael R. started off as a machinist at a Houston-based company called Bowen Tools, Inc. Over the years, he worked his way to a foreman, an N.C Programmer, and finally got himself into the senior management of the company. 

 

Over the years, Michael's passion for making things on machines also grew. After investing 40 years of his life in the company and having travelled around the globe several times, he decided to retire and spend more time with his family.

 

To make better use of the extra time he had after retirement, he decided to purchase a little mill and lathe, and eventually a CNC kit.

 

But Michael couldn’t find the machine he was looking for and decided to make his own. 

 

Taking the example of the Harbor Freight mini mill and lathe--the most popular CNC converters back in 2017, the help of YouTube videos, and a lot of trial and error, Michael was finally able to make a kit that didn't need any modifications to the machine.

 

Michael listed the kits on Ebay and was able to sell 7 of his self-designed kits in a week's time. Shortly after, he started getting requests for conversion kits for lathes, drill presses, bigger mills, and lathes.

 

It was then Michael realized the lack of experience and technical expertise in the industry required to make sound and efficient kits. Michael took on the opportunity and came up with CNC Conversion Plus.

Don’t see the machine you want?

We can design and build a kit for any machine. We’ll need to get measurements from your machine and design accordingly. This may require shipping the machine to my facility located in Cleveland, Texas. We realize that freight is expensive and the down-time can be very costly. With this in mind, we do not charge for the disassembly, design and re-assembly. We’d rather deal with fit and function issues in our plant so we can address, correct and modify the machine as needed.
